PADMÉ AMIDALA NABERRIE

canon; Star Wars
canon point; usually a post-RotS AU (info here)
canon cw; war, assassination, domestic violence, death in childbirth, loss of children

about; Padmé Amidala was a human female senator who represented the people of Naboo during the final years of the Galactic Republic. Prior to her career in the Galactic Senate, Amidala was the elected ruler of the Royal House of Naboo. A political idealist, she advocated for the preservation of democracy as well as a peaceful resolution to the Clone Wars. She was married to Anakin Skywalker until his transformation into Darth Vader; she died after giving birth to their twins, Luke and Leia.

additionally; personality, influential events, canon checklist

apparent age; Late 20s to early 30s
decoys; Padmé has extensive experience with switching places with her Handmaidens, adjusting her features with makeup and changing her mannerisms to allow the other women to act as decoys during her time as Queen and Senator.

IC PERMISSIONS

physical affection; In casual situations, she can be quite physically affectionate.
flirting; Absolutely. If affections are not reciprocated, she will likely politely deflect.
relationships; Friendships and alliances are incredibly valuable to Padmé, both politically and personally. She does not have much experience with romantic relationships, and in post-RotS AUs, they will be slower to develop. (shipping prefs)
sex; Yes, either m/f or f/f.
fighting; She has rather extensive training in weapons and hand-to-hand combat thanks to the security measures she adopted as Queen.
injury/death; Absolutely. She's not invulnerable and I'm completely open to both resulting from a physical confrontation, though let's talk before death.
psychic information; She is an open book.

OOC PERMISSIONS

timezone; EST (UTC-5)
rp style; preference for [ brackets ] with present tense, but can do prose
contact; [plurk.com profile] taintedcrimson / taintedcrimson#0896 / PM
backtagging; Always fine by me! My tagging speed can be a bit sporadic these days, so backtagging is my default status. Days, weeks, months, I'm always happy to pick up old threads no matter how much time has passed. And if you ever worry that I might have accidentally dropped a thread, please contact me! I've probably just lost a notif.
fourthwalling; Not interested.
warnings requested; There's not much that will bother me OOCly, but I'll always let my writing partners know if something does come up. For IC subjects, I'll give a heads up if something will have a stronger reaction than usual.
not interested in; r!63 characters aren't my jam, nor is romance with Anakin.

〈 CHARACTER INFO 〉
CHARACTER NAME: Padmé Amidala
CHARACTER AGE: 24
SERIES: Star Wars
CHRONOLOGY: Episode II: Attack of the Clones, after falling from the ship during the battle on Geonosis
CLASS: Hero, without a doubt
HOUSING: Individual housing in De Chima preferred

BACKGROUND: "I wasn't the youngest Queen ever elected. But now that I think back on it, I'm not sure I was old enough. I'm not sure I was ready."

PERSONALITY: Padmé is defined foremost by her compassion for others, belief in the power of democracy, and dedication to civil service. While there are of course nuances to her personal character, these are the pillars of who she is, and everything about her can be traced back to those pillars.

Her path to serving her people begins when she is just a child, devoting herself to public service by joining the Apprentice Legislators program at eight years old, and then the Legislative Youth Program at twelve. These programs and numerous volunteer and service projects illustrate her commitment, and she is elected as Queen of Naboo at the age of fourteen. Determined to sustain the peace her people have enjoyed for hundreds of years, and to making their lives better through her service and working closely with the planetary governor and various ministers on her advisory council, she refuses to bend her beliefs or compromise her moral code despite being so young, and she never hesitates to stand her ground on any matter. This remains true later when she is appointed Senator — even when her ship is attacked because of her opposition to a proposed act, she addresses the Senate less an hour later to prove that she will not bow to such pressure.

In her own mind, Padmé's safety is secondary to the well-being of others. Despite the fact that assassins are trying to kill her for her extremely vocal political agenda, she doesn't hesitate to leave the safety of Naboo to go with Anakin to Tatooine in search of his mother, nor does she allow the possibility of danger stop her from running off to help Obi-Wan on Geonosis. Not only does she care about the both of them, but she is completely unable to even fathom the possibility of sitting back and doing nothing when she could be of assistance — it's simply not in her nature.

Visiting Tatooine and meeting Anakin is an eyeopening experience that has a ripple effect in Padmé's life. It isn't her first time off-planet, but she had never been somewhere so far from the government she has such faith in. When she learns of Anakin's circumstances, she is appalled that slavery still exists in the galaxy, believing that the Republic would oppose such things, only to have her eyes opened to the fact that the Republic doesn't hold the far-reaching power she'd believed of it. She witnesses what can happen when corruption and crime rule instead of just law, and it strengthens her resolve to do whatever she can to protect others from that fate. Really, it is only when the Senate refuses to take action against the invasion of her planet, insisting on political runarounds rather than outright assistance, that her faith in democracy is truly shaken for the first time.

Idealistic to a fault, she is occasionally blinded by her need to see the good in everything. Her faith and unwavering trust in others masks whatever flaws they may have, such as when Anakin slaughters the Tusken Raiders and she merely comforts him after the act instead of seeing it for the sign of distress that it is. That trust and loyalty blinds her to any hints of Palpatine's true ambitions as well, despite having worked so closely with him over an entire decade. It is this belief in others that will ultimately be her downfall later in canon.

POWER:

Access Control | With a physical touch, Padmé will be able to open or activate any type of security system without needing a key or other type of access measure. This includes traditional locks, digital security code panels, latches, levers, etc., whether they be on doors, windows, or items.

〈 CHARACTER SAMPLES 〉
COMMUNITY POST (VOICE) SAMPLE:

[ The woman who appears on the screen will be familiar to many, her dark eyes fixed on the camera to directly address whoever may receive the message. ]

Hello. My name is Padmé Amidala, though many of you may already know me.

[ She doesn't hesitate or show any signs of the nerves she's feeling, the worry she has over what this may do to the others here. They have a right to know. ]

I understand that this isn't my first time here, but I have no memory of my previous experiences here, and so I would like to take this opportunity to apologize to all who knew me before. I am truly sorry for the pain this may cause you, and would very much like to meet all of you again when you are ready.

» AGE: 24

» SETTING: Wookiepedia

» SHORT DESCRIPTION: Moral. Stubborn. Determined. Compassionate. Kind. Loyal.
» INFLUENTIAL EVENTS:
Serving as Queen » Padmé's path to serving her people began when she was a child, devoting herself to public service by joining the Apprentice Legislators program at eight years old, and then the Legislative Youth Program at twelve, during which she served as supervisor of the capital city, Theed. These programs and numerous volunteer and service projects (including with the Refugee Relief Movement) illustrated her commitment, and she was elected as Queen of Naboo at the age of fourteen. She wasn't the youngest queen elected, and indeed it was standard practice for the Naboo to elect young women who they felt had a form of pure, childlike wisdom that adults lacked. Taking the royal name Amidala, Padmé was determined to sustain the peace her people had enjoyed for hundreds of years, and to making their lives better through her service and working closely with the planetary governor and various ministers on her advisory council. She didn't bend her beliefs or compromise her moral code despite being so young, and she never hesitated to stand her ground on any matter.

Invasion of Naboo » Shortly after her election as queen, the Trade Federation blockaded and then invaded Naboo, occupying the capital city and surrounding regions. After centuries of peace, Padmé is faced with the task of keeping her people safe against insurmountable odds. Working with the Jedi sent to aid in (failed) negotiations, she escapes the planet disguised as a handmaiden and traveled to Coruscant to plead her case to the Galactic Senate (after the small detour mentioned below). The Senate refuses to take action, insisting on political runarounds rather than outright assistance, and her faith in democracy is truly shaken for the first time. Rather than waiting for the committee to investigate, she returns to the planet with her Jedi escort and seeks an alliance with the planet's other inhabitants, something her predecessors had never considered worthwhile, perhaps considering the Naboo people above the amphibious species. Padmé does not agree with this view and begs for help to save their shared home, resulting in an alliance that endures for generations. With the Gungans facing the droid armies, she personally leads the infiltration team into the palace, unwilling to sit back in safety while others risked their lives. Ultimately, at the age of fourteen she faced down a planetary invasion and successfully lead a rebellion to expel the invaders. This and other subsequent acts during her rule led to her people proposing amending the constitution so she might serve a second term, though while she was grateful the people had such faith in her, she was glad to step down and let another take over. Popular rule is not democracy and does not give the people want they need, which is always foremost in her mind.

Tatooine and Meeting Anakin » Being forced to set down on Tatooine for ship repairs for continuing on to Coruscant is an event that has a ripple effect in Padmé's life. It isn't her first time off-planet, but she had never been somewhere so far from the government she had such faith in.

Becoming a Senator » Being asked to serve as Naboo's representative in the Galactic Senate changed the course of Padmé's life. She'd dreamed of having a family like her sister Sola, but the Queen's request is one she didn't feel she could refuse. Her life is devoted to public service, and if she could best serve her people as their representative to the rest of the galaxy, then she had to accept.

Opposing the Military Creation Act » As a member of the Loyalist Committee, Padmé is extremely vocal about her opposition to the motion that would create an army to fight the Separatists. Her opposition is so vocal, in fact, that Captain Typho, the chief of her personal security, insists on the both of them traveling as fighter pilots rather than on the cruiser with the rest of her entourage when she returns to Coruscant to vote on the bill. She argues that it isn't necessary, the threats against her would never escalate to such extreme action as an attempt on her life, and she is proven wrong when the cruiser is attacked on the landing pad. This is the point she is pulled from when arriving at Reverie, and she will be haunted by the guilt of having likely caused the deaths of a number of people by not seriously considering the threats and taking further measures to protect those in her service. Her own life isn't as important as theirs, and they deserved far better. She will also be determined to return home and seek justice from those who murdered them, no matter what it takes.

» FIT: While Padmé is no stranger to space with her frequent travels between Coruscant and Naboo, she has no experience actually living in space. The station will present new logistical challenges for her that she'll rise to easily as she has all other challenges faced in her life. It may not be quite so easy with the horror and survival elements of the station, however, and I'm excited to see how she deals with those situations she's never encountered before. She's going to be excited to explore and take action, despite being angry about being kidnapped to parts unknown.

» POWERS: Generic human, no powers to speak of other than being a badass politician.
» NOTES: None.

[ The woman who appears on the screen is young, a long braid of hair pulled over one shoulder. She holds herself with an almost regal air, her expression stoic and not betraying any ounce of turmoil or distress she might be feeling, and when she speaks it's with a maturity beyond her years. ]

My name is Padme Amidala and I am the representative of Naboo in the Galactic Senate. I was on my way to Coruscant for an important vote on the Military Creation Act when my convoy was attacked upon arrival.

[ She pauses for a moment, her expression not changing in the slightest but the deep breath she takes perhaps giving away the effort being put in to keeping herself held together. ]

If that means anything to you, please contact me immediately.
